The paintings of Danish artist Ruth Campau (b. 1955, lives in Copenhagen) are walkable, situational, and atmospheric; her artistic process is ritualistic and demanding. She creates architectures of color using precisely placed—and often very long—vertical brush or broom strokes on transparent synthetic supports. Layering, light, and reflection impart rhythm and spatial depth. Among Campau’s most impressive art-in-architecture projects is her monumental color intervention at the Copenhagen airport. This book documents the exhibition Colour on Brush in Space at the Museum of Non-Objective Art in Otterndorf. Inspired by the Northern German landscape and its tidal sea, the artist created a unique spatial installation in shades of brown and green that allows color to be experienced physically.
