Analyzing the visual language of the stamps and their significance for Germany\u2019s collective memory, from the One kreuzer black to Deutsche Post\u2019s cutting-edge crypto-stamp, he shows how the stamp broke the shackles of its function as a proof of postage paid to emerge in the early twentieth century as a medium of mass-circulation miniature-format graphic art.
