At first glance, Shara Hughes \u2019s (b. Atlanta, GA., 1981; lives and works in Brooklyn) colorful and extravagant landscapes are chock full of everything we love in famous paintings: the palette of Henri Matisse or David Hockney, the stylistic inventiveness of Edvard Munch or Paul C\u00e9zanne, the painterly gestures of Philip Guston or Josh Smith, perhaps even van Gogh\u2019s brushwork. She quotes this masculine tradition in landscape painting deliberately and unabashedly. This monograph is the first to present a comprehensive overview of Shara Hughes\u2019s work.<\/p>\n

Shara Hughes graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design \u00a0and later attended the Skowhegan School of Painting & Sculpture in Madison, ME. She has had solo shows at the Arts Club, London, the Metropolitan Opera, New York, and the Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia, Atlanta. In 2017, she participated in the Whitney Biennial, New York.<\/p>\n

Er lernte bei Wilfried Minks und machte 1971 sein erstes B\u00fchnenbild f\u00fcr Luc Bondy. Am Berliner Schillertheater und den M\u00fcnchner Kammerspielen ging seine Laufbahn als B\u00fchnenbildner weiter, danach war er Ausstattungsleiter am Bremer Theater und am Schauspielhaus Bochum. Von 1992 bis 1998 lehrte Sch\u00fctz Szenografie am ZKM in Karlsruhe und seit 2010 ist er Professor f\u00fcr B\u00fchnenbild an der Kunstakademie D\u00fcsseldorf.<\/p>\n

In seinem Buch Die<\/em> Unterbrechung<\/em> spricht er mit Annette Storr \u00fcber seine neuen B\u00fchneninszenierungen, die mit Modellen und Fotografien, aber am h\u00e4ufigsten mit Stills aus den Auff\u00fchrungen dokumentiert werden. Darunter sind die St\u00fccke Penthesilea<\/em> von Heinrich von Kleist, Landestheater Salzburg, 2018; Hamlet<\/em> von William Shakespeare, Schauspielhaus Bochum, 2019; Reich des Todes<\/em> von Rainald Goetz, Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg, 2020; Richard II<\/em> von William Shakespeare, Burgtheater, Wien, 2021 und Der Idiot<\/em> von Dostojewskij, Thalia Theater, Hamburg, 2021.<\/p>\n
